Hooo Hoo Halloween!

I always love making costumes for my self and enjoy even more making them for  Ava.

This year I am making this adorable owl costume for Ava. I couldn't find a cute pink hoodie, so I just got a long sleeved t-shirt.

I just realized that it is the 21st! Where did October go?? There are so many fun things next week that Ava will need to be costumed. I see a late night of felt feathers and foam coming up.

Soap Making - 2/3 of a Success!

So the other night, some crafty friends and I got together to make goats milk soap. I use goats milk soap as my main sudsy in the shower. It has really helped keep my skin hydrated. This stuff can get expensive so I decided to make some. There are several different options for soap making. I was interested in the simple  melt and pour on.

I ordered 10 pounds of goats milk soap base off the internet and made some simple wooden boxes for molds. We researched how to make linings for the molds and found what looked like a complicated one. Of course Bethany crafter extraordinaire always seems to uncomplicate these things and whip them up.

I wanted to line the boxes with saran wrap and freezer paper, just in case there was a leak. After we melted 2 pounds of soap in the double broiler it was time to add the essential oil. For our first one we used lavender. It smelled amazing!

Then we added a few extras on top - lavender buds on the lavender one, rose buds on the creme brulee    soap, and for our special christmas one - crushed cloves.

They looked great and smelled really yummy. However, two are stuck in the molds. One popped out super easy, but I am afraid that I while have to dismantle the molds to get the soap out. I plan on making alot more so hopefully I will figure out how to get them from NOT sticking.

**Update- I only had to take one panel off to release the soap! Not as traumatic as I thought.
